It’s all in the food!

My relationship with my body was bad till I was 25, I used to eat a lot of junk food, unhealthy fried food, and a lot of rice dishes🍚. I didn’t even follow the time to have my breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Back then, I didn’t know that maintaining time to eat, sleep, work, and respond to our bodies makes us healthy. So, I blindly followed what my tongue was craving.

Lately, I was reading many health blogs daily as I want to understand what someone has gone through this experience is saying. I’m reading blogs that tell people to be healthy in whatever situations they are in without transforming much, because not everyone can workout daily, and not everyone can eat healthy protein food on a daily basis. Lately, Niharikaa Kaur Sodhi ‘s articles on understanding body and mind changed my perspective towards a healthy lifestyle. Thank you Niharikaa!

Back to the real story, I went outside home to study after my bachelor’s and eating healthy food seemed quite impossible as I used to stay in a hostel. What the chef cooks is what we eat. So, either eating outside or having that oily food in the hostel mess are the only options in my hands.

Thank God, I completed my study and went back home after 6 months. Six months might seem less time for you but not for our bodies. It’s a whole lot of time to change its structure, to shout out loud that it can’t bear the unhealthy food anymore. The common symptom we experience when our body doesn’t accept the food we have is diarrhoea or vomiting. That’s true. Food intolerance causes diarrhoea and it’s important to listen to your body when it comes to food.

Forward to 2 years, where I was home constantly eating healthy food and maintaining proper time for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I didn’t notice the change earlier but later, I realised that I wasn’t craving junk food, I wasn’t craving spice, I wasn’t even craving sugar. It left me in wonder. I asked my sister if it was normal. She is more into a healthy lifestyle and she researches everything about food and fitness. Whenever I was in doubt I used to ask her about every tiny change I noticed in my body. It makes me rest assured and not overthink.

The advice I got from my mom and sister is that whether you stay at home/outside, eating healthy food and maintaining a time will make a lot of difference in your body. You are giving what your body needs and your body listens to you. You will get rid of unnecessary headaches, stomach aches, and digestion problems. Having fried and spicy food once in a while is fine, if your body is okay with it, but avoiding it slowly will make you glow differently ✹

A healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean you need to start a workout, go healthy all at once, and go vegan as many suggest. Being healthy means understanding what your body needs, what it is saying when you are having certain types of foods, and noticing the change it undergoes. Anyday, home food is a healthy food. Because it contains a sufficient amount of proteins, vitamins, carbohydrates, and sugars that fit our bodies. As someone who loves home food, I always recommend that. But this might not work for everyone.

The moment you realise that your body isn’t normal in terms of health, you should change the food you intake. It’s high time you need to change your food habits. Consult a certified doctor and make sure what to eat daily and transform your lifestyle. I personally don’t recommend the doctor because for me, it worked wonders and I even became fit from being very lean for years, and having home food. Good sleep is equally important obviously. I never thought that I would become fit till my graduation, but staying at home and having healthy food, good sleep and habituating time for my body made me look fit now. I’m happy that I don’t get sudden health problems. I gained weight and I can confidently say that it’s a healthy gainâœŒđŸ»

Finally

I read many articles on food and sleep by certified nutritionists and everyone says that understanding your body is the primary step for a healthy lifestyle. To start a procedure, you first need to know what your body needs, and what it hates. Only then do you have to come up with a lifestyle that makes you and your body healthy and win together? Because of the hectic work schedules every one of us has, it’s tough to maintain a healthy lifestyle but trust me changing your food habits alone will make more than 50% of the difference. Try this, and thank me later!
